SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to aerosol-generating systems. System comprises an aerosol-generating element, a casing comprising an upper surface, a lower surface and a plurality of regions, an interface element comprising a plurality of contact detection elements. Each contact detection element is configured to generate an input signal in response to the fact that said contact detection element detects contact with the upper surface in one of said plurality of areas or near it. System includes a circuit configured to receive input signals from said plurality of contact detection elements and to activate a function of the aerosol-generating system in response to a first plurality of input signals which satisfy the criterion. Satisfaction of the criterion is part of the multistage authentication procedure. Said criterion includes simultaneous reception by said circuit of a given number of input signals.

EFFECT: preventing use of the system by an unapproved user, reducing the number of used mechanical components, providing the user with easy-to-understand feedback with significant information.
