SUBSTANCE: invention relates to variants of factor H-binding proteins, and can be used in medicine to induce a humoral response against N. meningitidis in a mammal. The resulting protein is a variant factor of H-binding protein (fHbp) of A subfamily, which contains the amino acid substitution G220S and optional amino acid substitutions L130R and G133D; wherein the amino acid substitutions are substitutions in relation to fHbp ID 22, where the amino acid positions are numbered relative to the amino acid sequence of fHbp ID1.
EFFECT: invention provides an fHbp variant that binds human factor H (fH) with an affinity that is 50% or less of the fHbp ID 22 affinity for human fH, and the variant produces a bactericidal humoral response in a mammal.
