SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in thermal power plants, boiler houses, etc. to ensure independent ignition and combustion of pulverized coal mixtures with a low amount of volatile substances, high ash content, humidity, water-coal fuels and other low-flammability organic fuel-air mixtures without the use of additional ignition fuels. A burner for plasma ignition of a fuel-air mixture contains a housing, a tangential fuel line for supplying the fuel mixture, a tangential pipeline for supplying secondary air, which houses the base part of the electrodes, an ignition chamber and a power source. Consumable electrodes are attached to the base part of the electrodes, said electrodes made integral with a consumable part made of a refractory material with a low thermal conductivity coefficient and a ratio of length to nominal diameter on the consumable part of more than 7:1, the consumable part is located in the cavity of the ignition chamber of the air-fuel mixture, the operating voltage of the power source is more than 2 kV is adjustable, and the power supply voltage frequency is more than 1 kHz.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to form a zone in the ignition chamber with a high content of electrons, ions, atoms and radicals from the air-fuel mixture, which ignites from the cold state of their input.
