A nicotine composition for use in an aerosol-generating system contains at least one water-soluble polyhydric alcohol; at least one metal salt in an amount of at least about 0.5 percent by weight; at least one organic acid in an amount of from about 0.5 to about 4 percent by weight. In this case, at least one metal salt is selected from the group consisting of metal benzoates, metal cinnamates, metal cycloheptanecarboxylates, metal levulinates, metal propanoates, metal stearates and metal undecanoates. The aerosol-generating article contains the specified nicotine composition. The aerosol-generating system contains the specified nicotine composition and a nebulizer configured to generate an aerosol from the nicotine composition.
