FIELD: catalyst compositions.

SUBSTANCE: methods for preparing olefin polymerization catalyst compositions and polymers prepared therefrom. A pre-catalyst composition for an olefin polymerization catalyst is described, containing: a titanium-containing compound; a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting ofα -hydroxyisobutyric acid, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, mandelic acid and combinations thereof; peroxide-containing compound; a chromium-containing compound, a silica carrier and a solvent; where: (i) the mass ratio of solvent to carboxylic acid is from 1:1 to 100:1; and (ii) the equivalent molar ratio of titanium-containing compound to carboxylic acid is from 1:1 to 1:4. A pre-catalyst composition for an olefin polymerization catalyst, containing: a titanium-containing compound; (i) a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of α -hydroxyisobutyric acid, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, mandelic acid and combinations thereof; hydrogen peroxide; a chromium-containing compound, a silica support and a solvent, wherein: (i) the weight ratio of solvent to carboxylic acid is from 1:1 to 100:1; (ii) the equivalent molar ratio of titanium-containing compound to carboxylic acid is from 1:1 to 1:4; and (iii) the titanium-containing compound is present in an amount of from 0.01 to 10% by wt. based on the total weight of the precatalyst composition.

EFFECT: cost reduction for the production of olefin polymerization catalysts.
