FIELD: radiation therapy.
SUBSTANCE: method of accumulating radium radionuclides is presented, the said method includes obtaining a first solution containing thorium radionuclides and a thorium-binding extractant, wherein the first solution does not bind radium; ensuring the possibility of decay of part of the thorium radionuclides into radium atoms in the first solution; and collection of radium atoms resulting from decay. Allowing a part of the thorium radionuclides to decay into radium atoms involves leaving the first solution for the decay period in a chamber with walls of a material that attracts radium, and where the collection of radium atoms includes washing radium atoms from the walls using a saline solution. Also, ensuring that part of the thorium radionuclides can decompose into radium atoms involves introducing a first solution into a chamber from which radium atoms are separated without the use of an acid with a pH below 4. In addition, a method of producing a brachytherapy source, a device for accumulating radium radionuclides, and a brachytherapy source are described.
EFFECT: increase in efficiency and expansion of the range of radiation therapy agents is achieved.
