SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to systems for detection of emergency and pre-fire situations, namely to systems for automatic detection of overheating of electrical equipment elements, methods of their use and testing. Disclosed is a system for automatic detection of overheating of electrical equipment elements, which includes a gas sensor designed to detect gases, released during heating of the controlled element or thermally activated gas-releasing materials installed on it; controller connected or combined with gas sensor, made with the possibility of generating a notification on overheating of the monitored element and/or transmitting information on such overheating to another device when the sensor is exposed to gases taking into account the rate of change of their concentration.

EFFECT: improving reliability and safety of electrical equipment operation due to timely detection of defects accompanied by overheating of electrical equipment elements.
