SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to predict the risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in women planning pregnancy. At the pre-conception stage, a woman’s body mass index (BMI), lateral phenotype using Annette test and daily fasting venous blood glucose level twice day with 12 hour interval for 3 consecutive days are preliminarily determined. And if BMI=25–28, lateral phenotype is defined as ambidextrous, and the amplitude of the daily fasting venous blood glucose level in the morning and after 12 hours in the evening portions exceeds 1.6 mmol/l within the reference values for 3 consecutive days, high probability of developing gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnancy is predicted.

EFFECT: method enables to identify a risk group among women planning pregnancy to determine further management tactics: diet therapy, increased physical activity, in order to reduce the development of GDM and, as a result, the probability of a complicated course of pregnancy and childbirth, prevention of unfavorable perinatal outcomes characteristic of this pathology by assessing a set of the most significant indicators.
