SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for prediction of risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus. Method includes in registration before 24 weeks of pregnancy evaluating: age, prepregnancy body mass index, number of pregnancies and deliveries, presence of regressing pregnancy, glycaemia of venous plasma, presence delivery of large foetuses. Calculating a prognostic index F by formula. If F is more than zero, a high risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus is predicted. If F is less than or equal to zero, absence of risk in patient is predicted.

EFFECT: method enables efficient detection of a group of pregnant women with a high risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, timely prevention and reducing probability of complications during pregnancy due to assessing most significant risk factors.
