FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of hot briquetted iron (HBI). HBI is cooled by immersion in water, wherein substances containing CaO, Ca(OH)2, KOH or NaOH in water-soluble form in amount of 0.01 to 10 kg per 1 ton of HBI. Said added substances may be represented by slaked lime CaO or unslaked lime Ca(OH)2. Control of dosage of said added substances is carried out so that pH of water with additives exceeds value 7. HBI is immersed in water with additives for 20 minutes and held in the open air for two days.
EFFECT: enabling creation of conditions for limiting the rate of secondary oxidation of HBI during its production during cooling, which increases transport safety of HBI during transportation and storage.
