FIELD: experimental medicine; physiology.

SUBSTANCE: at the first stage, the rat is trained to leave the starting compartment and move into the safe compartment under the action of a pain stimulus. At the second stage, after formation of the reflex, the rat is placed in the starting compartment separated from the safe compartment by a removable partition. Both compartments are closed with plugs. A rat’s tail is passed through a hole in the plug of the starting compartment. A cord is attached to the tail, the other end of which is connected to a device for measuring tension. Current is supplied to current-conducting electrified floor of launching compartment and simultaneously detachable partition wall between compartments is removed. When the rat attempts to leave the starting compartment under the action of the pain stimulus and in accordance with the developed reflex, the cord is pulled, and the tension force recorded by the measuring device corresponds to the muscle force.

EFFECT: method enables assessing the muscular effort of experimental rats using their avoidance reflex under the action of a pain stimulus, wherein the maximum number of animal muscles is involved.
