FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method of manufacturing steel strip (1) in the form of coiled rolls or in the form of cut separate sheets includes the production of steel melt, molding manufactured steel melt in apparatus (2) for continuous casting of workpieces to obtain workpiece (3), which in undivided form or in separate slabs is directed into heating apparatus (4), and then into rolling mill (5) for rolling into strip (1). Production of steel melt includes the following stages: a) melting solid iron-containing starting material in melting unit (6), b) continuous supply of solid starting materials and air, oxygen and/or natural gas to unit (6) to achieve, in the flat bath phase, a constantly intense boiling reaction for 2–30 minutes, c) supply of obtained melt to vacuum unit (7) and its decarburisation with maximum decarburization rate of 180 ppm of carbon per minute. In apparatus (4), workpiece (3) or slabs are heated at a temperature higher than A3-20 K so that the volume fraction of ferrite in the regions of the workpiece or slab located near the surface to a depth of at least 5 mm is less than 5 vol.%.
