SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a garment care device (100) and a corresponding method comprising steam generator (104) for generating steam, wherein the steam generator comprises steam outlet (105); foot (108) comprising steam outlet holes (110) in fluid communication with said steam generator; valve system (V), located between said steam outlet opening and said steam outlet openings, for controlling the steam flow between said steam outlet opening and said steam outlet openings; sensor (120) for measuring the speed of the garment care device; and processing unit (122) for controlling said valve system as follows: a) if the speed is in the first speed range, said processing unit is configured to control the valve system so that the steam flow is in the first steam flow rate range, b) if the speed is in the second speed range, said processing unit is configured to control the valve system so that the steam flow is in the second steam flow rate range, wherein said first speed range and said second speed range do not overlap with each other and both are strictly greater than 0, and said first steam flow rate range and said second steam flow rate range do not overlap with each other and both are strictly greater than 0.
