SUBSTANCE: aerosol generating device, aerosol generating system, and method for generating an output signal in an aerosol generating system. The aerosol generating device comprises a housing comprising an air inlet, an air outlet and an air flow path extending therebetween; an aerosol generating element disposed within the case and configured to generate aerosol within the air flow path; a set of haptic output elements; a circuit operably connected to the plurality of haptic output elements and configured to independently actuate each haptic output element from the said plurality of haptic output elements; and the first sensor coupled to the case and configured to generate the first status signal in response to a user holding the aerosol generating device. The circuit is configured to actuate the first haptic output element from the said plurality of haptic output elements in response to the first status signal.
