FIELD: ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing molten iron. When processing magnesium-containing carbonate iron-ore concentrate, its gravitational enrichment and reduction in a rotary furnace are performed. Concentrate is reduced at temperature of 1300–1350 °C. Obtained metallized concentrate with temperature of not less than 1000 °C is loaded into electric furnace together with flux in form of colemanite, in amount of 4–12.5% of concentrate weight, in which separating melting into metal and slag is performed. Colemanite loading is calculated based on—12.5% of the amount of concentrate with ratio SiO2/MgO equal to 0.5, and linear decrease to 4% with increase of SiO2/MgO to 1.
EFFECT: as a result, energy and material costs for material preparation and for the recovery process are reduced.
