SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for optical analysis of an aerosol-generating component of an article. Disclosed is a system for producing an aerosol-generating article component, wherein the component comprises: a longitudinal axis; first end and second end; aerosol-forming substrate; and a current collector in thermal contact with the aerosol-forming substrate. System also comprises a first source of electromagnetic radiation adapted to illuminate the component. System may also comprise a first polarized chamber comprising a sensor for detecting polarization information of electromagnetic radiation, wherein the first polarized camera defines a first field of view, wherein the first polarized camera is positioned such that the first end of the component is in the first field of view, wherein the first polarized camera is adapted to create a first image of the first end of the component, wherein the first image is formed by a plurality of pixels, wherein each pixel of the plurality of pixels contains information on the polarization of electromagnetic radiation detected by the camera. System can also contain a control unit adapted for processing the first image and detecting the position of the current collector on the first image.
