FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: present technology generally relates to lidar systems and methods for detecting objects in the environment of an autonomous vehicle. Lidar system comprises an emitter capable of emitting at least one light beam; detector capable of receiving light reflected from surrounding objects; and a rotating scanning element comprising a reflecting prism with at least four faces inclined relative to the axis of rotation, and a light-transmitting element connected to the reflecting prism. Light-transmitting element has an outer edge portion located around the axis of rotation substantially in a plane parallel to the axis of rotation, wherein the edge portion has a variable thickness relative to the axis of rotation, and the emitter, the detector and the rotating scanning element are made so that the light beam falls on the inner surface of the light-transmitting element and is refracted by it, and then falls on one of at least four faces of the reflecting prism, wherein the angle of incidence of the beam on the face depends on the variable thickness of the light-transmitting element.
EFFECT: reduction of distortions, inhomogeneities of distribution of output beams and change of sampling density.
