FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used to determine the degree of visual impairment in patients with initial cataract and high visual acuity. First, visual quality is assessed by determining internal aberrations of higher order: coma, spherical aberration, trefoil. Values are assigned points. Scores for each higher-order aberration are summed up. That is followed by a survey according to the questionnaire "Assessment of the quality of vision of patients" with a five-point rating system from 0 to 4. Obtained points are summed up. Total score for aberrometry and the total score for the questionnaire are then summed up. Degree of visual impairment is determined: if the score is from 0 to 10 – a mild degree of visual impairment, from 10 to 15 – an average degree of visual impairment, more than 15 – a high degree of visual impairment.

EFFECT: method provides a combined assessment of the degree of visual impairment, enables to make a decision on the need for surgical treatment.
