FIELD: units and parts of machines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to packings, mainly soft packings intended for operation in glands with axial tension. Packing includes woven bundles of fibrous base with surface of alternating ledges. Projections are made with a leveled flat surface with formation of gaps between the projections, wherein the gaps are made along the width of not less than 10% of the thickness of the bundles of the fibrous material.
EFFECT: improved operational characteristics of the packing related to packing capacity at axial loads and simultaneous reduction of its shrinkage capacity, which allows ensuring tightness of the assembly and prolonging the service life of the pad.
