FIELD: railway engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transport engineering, in particular to the brake pads of railway vehicles. The brake pad of a railway vehicle, including a metal frame pressed into a composite friction element, the elements of fixing the pad in the form of bosses on the upper surface, the working surface, two flat end surfaces and one rear side surface, on the faces of which two wear indicators are made in the form of a recess, while each wear indicator is formed by the intersections of three surfaces: two lateral vertical and one lower surface of the equidistant working surface of the pad, while the interfaces of these surfaces with each other are smooth with a rounded radius equal to 0.5-5.0 mm, and the length of the wear indicators is equal to 3.0-6.0% of the length of the pad. Wear indicators are made at a height equal to the part of the pad that is not worn during operation. The width of the wear indicators is made equal to 0.5-0.8 of the distance from the rear side surface to the surface of the side boss.
EFFECT: increase in the performance characteristics of the brake pad, associated with simultaneous reduction in the internal stress concentration in the areas where the wear indicator surfaces intersect, preventing the destruction of the pad, the possibility of clear visibility, distinguishability of the wear indicator in all weather conditions for the possibility of more accurate visual determination and control of the maximum permissible amount of wear of the brake pad.
