FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to experimental medicine, namely to neurology, and can be used to simulate malignant ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery. Median incision is made on the neck of an experimental rabbit. Common carotid and external carotid arteries are dissected ipsilaterally. Internal carotid and occipital arteries are dissected. Common carotid and external carotid arteries are ligated at a distance of not more than 2 mm from the bifurcation of the common carotid artery (CCA). An occipital artery is ligatured, and a temporary clip is applied on the internal carotid artery (ICA). Arteriotomy of the CCA is performed in the place of its bifurcation. Through the performed arteriotomy, a monofilament made of Prolen 5-0 suture material is introduced into the ICA until resistance is felt with simultaneous removal of the temporary clip from the ICA. After sensation of resistance, the monofilament is advanced 2 cm into the middle cerebral artery. Second monofilament made of Prolen 5-0 suture material is inserted through the arteriotomy into an anterior cerebral artery at 5 cm from the arteriotomy site. Both monofilaments are fixed by ICA ligation, after which the wound is closed.

EFFECT: method provides creating a model having clinical signs maximally similar to the clinical picture of malignant ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery in the patients by cessation of blood supply to the cerebral hemisphere through collateral vessels.
