FIELD: hygiene.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hygiene, in particular to methods of improving the air environment in a room using houseplants. Result is achieved by placing indoor plants in the room in the form of phytomodules according to biological requirements for illumination, timely care of plants, including soil watering and spraying; indoor plants are selected taking into account unpretentiousness in care, absence of their antagonistic allelopathic effect on each other, absence of sensitizing properties, providing gas-absorbing activity, neutralizing air contaminants of various origins, producing oxygen and having transpiring properties. Phytomodules contain houseplants, which have transpiring ability (Chlorophytum comosum, Aspidistra elatior, Begonia ricinifolia, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, Coleus blumei, Murraya exotica, Nephrolepis exaltata, Sansevieria trifasciata, Cyperus alternifolius), of which 3 types of plants have high gas-absorption capacity (Chlorophytum comosum, Sansevieria trifasciata and Cyperus alternifolius). Plants are placed in amount of 1.0–1.4 m2 of leaf surface of plants per 100 m3 of the room with illumination in range of 1,000–3,500 lux and initial relative humidity of air in room of 34–36%. Balance of gas-absorbing and transpiring capacity of the above plants is achieved at the ratio of their leaf surface in phytomodules making 1:1:2 respectively.

EFFECT: improved indoor air environment due to absorption of harmful gases and air transpiration in the room by optimizing the species composition of indoor plants and the ratio of their leaf surface area.
