FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inserts for embedding into a silicone hydrogel contact lens. Disclosed is an insert comprising a cross-linked polymer material, which contains (1) repeating units of at least one silicone-containing polymerisable material, (2) from 25 to 50 wt.% of repeating units of at least one aryl acrylic monomer and (3) at least one vinyl cross-linking agent, where the sum of the amounts of components (1) and (2) of the cross-linked polymer material is not less than 70 wt.% from total weight of cross-linked polymer material, wherein glass transition temperature of cross-linked polymer material in dry state is higher than 28 °C, wherein moisture content of cross-linked polymer material in completely hydrated state is less than 5 wt.%, oxygen permeability is not less than 60 barrels, and refraction index is not less than 1.45, and where all 3 components are selected from specific compounds. Also disclosed is an embedded silicone hydrogel contact lens containing the disclosed insert. Disclosed insert is made from cross-linked materials, which are rigid in dry state at room temperature (from approximately 22 °C to about 26 °C), have high oxygen permeability and high refraction index in a completely hydrated state and can be softened at a temperature higher than 32 °C.

EFFECT: such materials are useful for making inserts for built-in contact lenses for correcting corneal astigmatism, presbyopia and colour blindness, as well as for imparting photochromic characteristics to lenses.
