METHOD OF TREATING PAIN AFTER LIMB AMPUTATION Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61M5/00 A61K39/08 A61P25/02

Abstract RU 2823155 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neurology, and can be used in treating pain after amputation of an extremity. Method involves the subcutaneous introduction of botulinum toxin type A (BTA) into the stump, wherein the injections are carried out around a surgical scar at distance of 0.5–1.0 cm from it and with an interval between injections of 1–2 cm. Further, injections are carried out over the entire area of the stump with an interval between them of 1–2 cm, wherein the dose per one injection in the presence of a neuropathic pain zone of stump is 4–5 units, and without pain – 2–3 units of the preparation, to a total dose of 100–150 units for the upper limb and 210–250 units for the lower limb.

EFFECT: use of the invention allows to improve the length of rehabilitation after amputation, improve the quality of life of patients, effectively and safely treat phantom and neuropathic pains with a parallel reduction or refusal to take drugs used in the traditional complex therapy of neuropathic pain, including opioid analgesics, by providing a fast analgesic effect with the BTA preparation, which blocks neuromuscular transmission at the synapse level by diffusion and leads to muscular relaxation and decompression of afferent receptors.
