FIELD: measurement and testing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to acoustic non-destructive testing. For this, in the ultrasonic inspection method, the rail cross-section is divided into zones, in the vicinity of the assumed defective section, a wheeled search system containing a set of piezoelectric transducers is installed on the rail, moving the wheeled search system along the rail surface, periodically probing the defective section, wherein for each zone, taking into account the scanned surface from the set of transducers, selecting the required group, controlled area is sequentially scanned from one or more surfaces of rail, time positions of echo signals from structural elements are determined, for each piezoelectric transducer in group, taking into account scanned surface and characteristics of signals from structural elements, setting ultrasonic inspection parameters, recording echo signals from a defect, echo signals from the defective section received from one or several surfaces of the rail are analysed together, and a decision on the parameters of the defect is made.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of inspection of local sections of rails while simultaneously increasing inspection productivity and reducing the weight of the scanner.
