SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, particularly to ophthalmology, and can be used to determine density of nerve fibres of the cornea (CNF) in ophthalmic patients. When conducting confocal microscopy, the length of each nerve fibre and the area of the investigated area are determined. Thereafter, the CNF density is calculated by the presented formula.

EFFECT: method enables assessing the severity of the pathological processes occurring in the cornea, as well as aspects of the surgical intervention on the cornea.
