SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an aerosol-generating substrate, a method for making said substrate, as well as an aerosol-generating article and system. Aerosol-generating article comprises an aerosol-generating substrate. Aerosol-generating substrate contains a homogenised star anise material containing star anise particles, a substance for forming an aerosol and a binder. Aerosol-generating substrate contains: at least 70 micrograms of (E)-anetol per gram of substrate in terms of dry weight; at least 50 micrograms of epoxyanetol per gram of substrate in terms of dry weight; and at least 130 micrograms of benzyliso-eugenol ether per gram of substrate in terms of dry weight.

EFFECT: enabling reduction of the level of undesirable aerosol compounds in comparison with existing aerosol-generating substrates, for example, containing only tobacco.
