SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an aerosol-generating substrate containing thyme species and an aerosol-generating system. Heated aerosol-generating article contains an aerosol-generating substrate which includes a homogenised thyme material containing at least 2.5 percent by weight of thyme particles in terms of dry weight, an aerosol-forming substance and a binder. Aerosol-generating substrate contains at least 400 micrograms of ursolic acid per gram of the substrate in terms of dry weight and at least 150 micrograms of thymol per gram of the substrate in terms of dry weight, wherein the amount of ursolic acid per gram of the substrate is at least 2 times greater than the amount thymol per gram of substrate. Aerosol-generating article further comprises at least one hollow tube located downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate, directly behind it.

EFFECT: enabling reduction of the level of undesirable aerosol compounds in comparison with existing aerosol-generating substrates, for example, containing only tobacco.
