SUBSTANCE: aerosol-generating article for producing an inhaled aerosol when heated has an aerosol-generating substrate rod and a downstream section at a location downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate rod. Downstream section comprises a support element located directly downstream of the aerosol-generating substrate rod, wherein the support element is in longitudinal alignment with the aerosol-generating substrate rod, and comprises a first hollow tubular segment and an aerosol cooling element located immediately downstream of the support element and being in longitudinal alignment with the support element and the aerosol-generating substrate rod, wherein the aerosol cooling element comprises a second hollow tubular segment. Aerosol-generating article further comprises a ventilation zone at a location along the second hollow tubular segment and an upstream section at an upstream location of the aerosol-generating substrate rod and has a ventilation level of at least 10 percent. Upstream section comprises an upstream element arranged upstream of the aerosol-generating substrate rod and having a draw resistance of less than 80 mm H₂O.

EFFECT: enabling increase in the aerosol cooling efficiency to temperatures which are desirable for the consumer, improved nucleation of aerosol particles.
