FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to surgery, oncocoloproctology, and can be used for prediction of large losses of fluid and electrolytes by preventive ileostomy, leading to dehydration and repeated hospitalization of patients. Patients who underwent a low anterior rectal resection for cancer with formation of a preventive ileostoma, undergo ileoscopy before surgery and a mucosal biopsy is taken from the terminal ileum. In light microscopy of micropreparations obtained from biopsy materials, the ratio av. height of fibres, mcm/av. crypt depth, mcm, is determined. If the value is less than 4.38, the development of water-electrolyte disturbances is predicted.

EFFECT: invention provides more accurate prediction of the development of water-electrolyte disorders in the postoperative period after the formation of a preventive ileostoma.
