SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an article for generating an aerosol and a method for production thereof. Article for generating an aerosol comprises a combustible heat source having a longitudinal outer surface, an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the combustible heat source and a retaining wrapper. Retaining wrapper comprises an upstream portion extending by at least 50 percent along the length of the combustible heat source on the longitudinal outer surface of the combustible heat source and comprising at least one opening, wherein at least one hole covers at least 30 percent of the longitudinal outer surface of the combustible heat source, and a downstream portion surrounding at least a portion of the aerosol-forming substrate.

EFFECT: sufficient amount of air of combustible heat source is provided to facilitate ignition and combustion of combustible heat source.
