SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control over converter operation. When supplying oxygen source to liquid cast iron located inside converter, and performing refining by desiliconization, dephosphorization and decarbonisation, determining one, two or more parameters, selected from the shape of the flow of the removed slag, the flow rate of the removed slag and the shape of the surface of the slag when tapping the slag through the neck, to estimate the amount of removed slag and/or physical properties of the removed slag. At the stage of intermediate slag removal, one or two parameters are determined, selected from the shape of the flow of the removed slag, the flow rate of the removed slag and the shape of the surface of the slag, estimating the amount of removed slag and/or physical properties of the removed slag, estimating the remaining amount of slag and determining the amount of auxiliary material based on the assessment result, to be loaded during refining at said other refining step.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the amount of consumed auxiliary raw material in form of lime, which is used at another subsequent stage of refining.
