SUBSTANCE: invention relates to refining of liquid iron. In method auxiliary material is added, and oxidising gas is supplied to pig iron and liquid iron, which are located or supplied to converter, and liquid iron is refined. Before the refining process, the pre-loaded pig iron is loaded into the converter before loading the liquid iron into the converter in an amount of more than 0, but not exceeding 0.15 of the sum of the amount of pre-loaded pig iron and the amount of loaded liquid iron, and pig iron loaded into the furnace top, which is added from the furnace top, is supplied to the converter during the refining process.

EFFECT: invention prevents preservation of pig iron unmelted even in conditions of high proportion of pig iron in mixture, and is also effective, in particular, for refining by dephosphorization of liquid cast iron, which is a low-temperature process.
