FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and apparatus for extracting zinc from hard zinc. Apparatus consists of a heated boiler with a spherical bottom and a horizontal perforated partition. On the boiler flange there is a vertical partition with a ledge in the lower level, equipped with siphon openings, dividing the boiler volume into an accumulation zone and a reaction zone, in which a grate in the form of a perforated sector is installed on the ledge, which rests on the spherical part of the boiler, for separation of solid and liquid phases. Hard zinc is melted, mixing with aluminum and separating solid iron compounds in form of dross. On the surface of liquid hard zinc in the reaction zone of the apparatus, aluminum is loaded at rate of 0.54–0.77 kg per kg of weight of iron in hard zinc, heated to 560–640 °C and stirred until dry drosses are formed, then cooled to 460–540 °C to remove drosses from the liquid zinc surface, purified zinc is drained from the accumulation zone through siphon windows.
EFFECT: inventions make it possible to increase purity of zinc melted from hard zinc.
