FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to dentistry and osteopathy, and can be used in treating headache, mainly in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Method includes simultaneous integrated treatment of occlusion pathology and related disorders of position of skull bones, tension of aponeurosis of head and pathology of cervical spine. Treatment is started with a manual massage of the scalp at the junction of the skull bones. Exposure is performed with thumbs and forefinger of both hands with deep penetrating motions, working through frontal-parietal suture, sagittal suture, parieto-occipital suture and temporo-parietal suture. Then the tension of the aponeurosis is eliminated by performing a manual massage on the aponeurosis of the scalp, thereafter, nose, upper jaw, palate and zygomatic bones are exposed to manual action, followed by relaxation of spasmodic neck muscles by eliminating compression between an occipital bone and a first cervical vertebra – atlas. Compression of the atlantooccipital suture is eliminated by manipulations of perpendicular fingers under the occipital bone, pulling upwards, moving the occipital bone away from the cervical vertebrae, relaxing the inhibited spinous and rectus muscles of the head. Further, under the control of MRI or CT, the TMJ disc is repositioned. For elimination of spasmodic effect of masseter muscles, stabilization of musculo-ligamentous apparatus of TMJ and fixation of changed position of lower jaw, a shock-absorbing occlusal bite splint for night wearing is made. Splint is made from a dental self-curing silicone material, placing the silicone material between the chewing teeth on both sides, fixing and preventing, after hardening the silicone material, the complete closure of the mouth in the usual occlusion. Occlusal thickness of the silicone bite splints varies from 2.0 to 12.0 mm; the splint is made from the dental self-curing material Speedex or Zetalabor. After the end of treatment, occlusal contacts are corrected by therapeutic fillings and prosthetics.
EFFECT: due to the integrated effect and the correctly selected technique, the method enables curing the patient from headache and then taking the necessary dental measures for treating the TMJ dysfunction.
