FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to orthopaedic dentistry and gnathology, and can be used for splint therapy in patients with end dentition defects and limited mouth opening. Preliminary, mini-screws are placed in the distal parts of the jaw as a distal support. Optical or silicone impressions of the patient’s dentition are taken in the usual occlusion. Obtained prints are converted into digital models in STL format. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is performed in the usual occlusion, CBCT images are saved in DICOM format. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the temporomandibular joint is performed with a closed and an open mouth. Digital models in STL format and CBCT images in DICOM format are loaded into a virtual planning program, the digital print model and CBCT data are combined. A lower jaw position is planned, and a splint is simulated taking into account the pre-installed mini-screws and the position of the intra-articular discs. 3D model of the splint is exported in STL format to 3D printer for subsequent printing and sent for milling on a CAD machine, or the splint is made using plaster models and an articulator.
EFFECT: method provides the effective splint therapy of the patients with end denture defects with pronounced limitation of the mouth opening without increasing the length of treatment due to preliminary installation of the mini-screws as a distal support.
