FIELD: cosmonautics; electricity.
SUBSTANCE: proposed invention relates to spacecraft crew life support systems, as well as to devices for processing carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Device comprises a microwave generator, a rectangular waveguide in the form of a torus with flanges for connecting the upper and lower arms of the coaxial line, a coaxial line with electrodes for generating a discharge, a discharge tube made of radiotransparent material. Central conductor of the coaxial line in the zone of the waveguide has a break to form a glow discharge and is equipped with water-cooled tungsten electrodes. Inner conductor of the upper arm of the coaxial line is electrically isolated from the housing of the device with an independent cooling circuit. Inner conductor of the lower arm of the coaxial line is electrically connected to the housing of the device. Rectangular waveguide has a smooth transition from input of microwave energy to the discharge zone due to uniform symmetric reduction of the size of narrow walls of the rectangular waveguide.
EFFECT: elimination of use of high direct current of arc, which causes erosion of metal of electrodes and its ingress into reaction products, elimination of use of matched load, reduction of temperature of combined discharge and power consumption.
