FIELD: electrochemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: method of removing a graphite mandrel from metal products obtained from molten salts involves mechanical removal of the used graphite mandrel and subsequent removal of the mandrel by electrolysis. Graphite mandrel is mechanically removed from the article to the remaining layer with thickness of not more than 5 mm. Then the article with the remaining graphite layer is placed in an aqueous solution containing from 50 to 90 wt.% of sulphuric acid, molybdenum rod is fed to the remaining layer of graphite and direct current of 1-5 A is passed through a circuit in which the article serves as an anode, and the molybdenum rod is a cathode, electrolysis is carried out at temperature of 25 °C to complete removal of graphite. Combined use of mechanical and electrochemical methods of destruction of graphite mandrel allows preventing micro damages typical for mechanical removal of graphite.
EFFECT: improving the surface quality of a product obtained by an electrochemical method using a graphite mandrel as a cathode.
