FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, namely to surge arrester, which includes discharge modules, and can be used for overvoltage protection, for example, lightning electric installations, high-voltage power transmission lines and electric networks. Result is achieved by the fact that the surge arrester contains at least two discharge modules, wherein the discharge module includes an insulating body with at least one common outlet from the insulating body and a plurality of electrodes placed in the insulating body with discharge gaps between them, wherein at least part of discharge gaps are made with possibility of discharge products direction into common outlet from insulating body, wherein the discharge modules are electrically connected in series by connecting the electrodes of the discharge modules with the help of connecting electrodes and/or spark gaps and/or nonlinear resistances, and are placed on the rod passing through the discharge modules.

EFFECT: increased reliability of surge arrester operation.
