FIELD: communication technique.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication, including beam formation by means of sparse antenna arrays. Communication method includes identification of a terminal within a geographic area, determining positions of antennae of the antenna array, implemented on one or more satellites, based at least in part on the first signal received from the first transmitter, a second signal received from the second transmitter, the position of the first transmitter and the position of the second transmitter. Antennae of the antenna array are deployed in space orbit. Distance between adjacent antennae of the antenna array differs throughout the antenna array. First beam coefficients may be used to form a first beam for a terminal, wherein the coverage area of the first beam may cover a geographic area. First beam can be used for communication with the terminal. Based on the use of a first beam exceeding a threshold value, second beam coefficients can be determined for the antenna array. Second beam coefficients can be used to form a second beam, wherein the coverage area of the second beam may differ from the coverage area of the first beam. Second beam can be used for communication with the terminal.
