SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication, including beam formation by means of sparse antenna arrays. Antenna array is associated with formation of detection beams within a geographical area, wherein each detection beam is formed by a corresponding set of antennae of the antenna array and covers a detection area within a geographic area; headers transmitted from terminals within a detection zone are detected by an antenna array; based on the detection of the header using the detection beam, it is possible to determine the presence of a terminal in the corresponding detection zone, based on the detection of the presence of the terminal, signals detected in the second set of antennae of the antenna array, can be processed in accordance with beam coefficients to obtain a beam signal of a specific communication beam, which includes a beam coverage area covering the position of the terminal. Each detected signal may contain a corresponding signal component transmitted by the terminal.

EFFECT: providing higher beamforming resolution and supporting an increased number of users within a geographic area.
