FIELD: veterinary science.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to veterinary science and can be used in sampling dog hair coat for evaluation of characteristics of metabolism of chemical elements in the body. In order to take samples of the coat of dogs for analysis for elemental composition, the required hair sample is cut with length L, which is calculated taking into account the rate of their growth from the root by the formula: L=S×I, where L is the distal distance measured from the hair root (mm), S is the hair growth rate (mm/day), I is the studied time period (days). Sampling is carried out from an area of animal back skin located below a projection of shoulder blades, at that rate of hair regrowth from root S=0.35±0.09 mm/day.
EFFECT: method provides information on the rate of hair regrowth in dogs depending on the type of coat, increases efficiency and accuracy of assessing the elemental status of dogs, enables timely correction of the imbalance of the exchange concentration of chemical elements in the animal's body, and also takes into account seasonal fluctuations of the analysed elements.
