FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering and can be used in production of reed switches. Method of making protective coating on surface of contact parts of reed switches in gas discharge of alternating current includes preliminary cleaning of surface of contact parts for 30–90 minutes at current of glow discharge with pulse density (7–9)⋅102 mA/cm2 and subsequent ion-plasma nitriding of said surface for 90-120 min at glow discharge current with pulse density (4–6)⋅102 mA/cm2. Sinusoidal voltage with frequency of 50 Hz is used for excitation and maintenance of gas glow discharge between open contact parts in reed switches. After ion-plasma nitriding, reed switches are switched under action of external magnetic field with frequency of 100 Hz for 30–60 minutes without passing current through them.
EFFECT: providing formation of high-quality protective nitride-containing coating on surface of contact parts of reed switches, in presence of which transient electric resistance of reed switches does not exceed 0.1 Ohm.
