FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to dentistry and can be used to diagnose chronic periodontitis by organic and mineral composition of tooth enamel. Tooth enamel is examined by Raman spectroscopy, in which a diode laser focuses radiation on an object—tooth enamel at distance of 7.5 mm from an exit window with a focal spot diameter of 0.15 mm and collects backscattered radiation, which is then directed along the optical fiber to the spectrometer with subsequent processing of the spectra. If the position of the maximum of the hydroxyapatite line of 955.7–958.8 cm−1 is less than value of 956.9 cm−1, the absence of chronic periodontitis is diagnosed by the state of the dental enamel. If the position of the maximum of hydroxyapatite line 955.7–958.8 cm−1 is more than 956.9 cm−1, then the amplitude value of the amide I line is additionally analyzed. If the amplitude value of the amide line I is 1,654 cm−1 is more than the amplitude value of 0.024, chronic periodontitis is diagnosed by the state of tooth enamel.
EFFECT: method enables improving the diagnosis of periodontitis in dental practice by assessing changes in the organic and mineral composition of tooth enamel by Raman spectroscopy.
