SUBSTANCE: invention relates to porous materials for electrodes of electrochemical energy storage systems. According to the invention, the battery comprises: a positive electrode, an electrolyte and a negative electrode, wherein the negative electrode comprises a metal precursor material and a volatile blowing agent, and wherein the volatile blowing agent is dispersed in the metal precursor material, and enabling removal of the volatile blowing agent from the negative electrode by electrochemical reduction with conversion of the metal precursor material into the porous metal.
EFFECT: providing high efficiency, low-cost iron batteries.
