FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment and can be used to determine temperature of ductile-brittle transition of metal of process objects during operation. Performing the operating pipeline surface testing by the kinetic indentation method, calculating the indentation rate of the indenter and the plastic deformation rate under the tip using the thermally activated plastic deformation equation, use of the temperature dependence of the yield point, which is equal to the true separation stress for calculating the critical brittleness temperature. Viscous-brittle transition temperature is found by a formula which relates the hardness value and the Zener-Hollomon parameter. If the obtained critical brittleness temperature is equal to or exceeds the operating temperature of the pipeline, then this pipeline should be taken out of operation, uncontrolled propagation of cracks can occur with a sharp increase in the operating load, if the pipeline operating temperature is higher than the brittleness temperature, then the pipeline has a margin for plastic deformation of the material.
EFFECT: possibility of determining critical temperature of brittleness of structural steels.
