SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding/decoding images by applying a mode based on intra sub-partitions (ISP) to images having different chroma signal formats. Result is achieved by determining whether the prediction mode of the current block is an internal prediction mode, based on information regarding the prediction mode of the current block, determining whether an intra sub-partition (ISP) mode is available for the current block when the prediction mode of the current block is an internal prediction mode, decoding an ISP application indicator indicating whether or not the ISP should be applied to the current block when the ISP is available for the current block, and generating a prediction block for the current block by applying the ISP to the current block, when determining that the ISP is applied to the current block, based on the ISP application indicator.

EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding/decoding images.
