FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: novel ytterbium complexes are prepared from porphyrine in a solution of 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and ytterbium acetylacetonate on boiling in a nitrogen current for 2 hours. Isolation is carried out by passing a cooled solution of the ytterbium complex through a Al2O3 layer; trichlorobenzene is washed off with hexane, porphyrine is eluted with toluene and then with acetone and subsequently with a hot solution of isopropanol and acetic acid (99:1). The resulting raspberry solution is poured into water and the ytterbium complex is recovered with chloroform containing no traces of HCl, the yield 34.7 mp higher than 300 C. The tests of the ytterbium complex enable one to register the peak of luminescence in the region of 975 nm or the entire spectrum in the region of 900-1050 nm of the organs or tissues to be diagnosed. The ytterbium complex is as toxic as porphyrine. EFFECT: creation of agents of said class having better degree of contrast. 1 tbl
