A drop of cooling agent is heated up to the boiling temperature by its contacts with the heated surface of cutting tool 7 before its section is brought to membrane 7. The cooling agent drop evaporates in the zone membrane 3 is positioned. The membrane is accelerated under the action of produced steam, the acceleration depends on the temperature of the heating surface of cutting tool 7. The acceleration value of membrane 3 is measured by piezoresonance transducer 5 is compared with calibrated data and the actual cutting tool temperature is determined.
