METHOD FOR REMOTE MEASURING SPEED AND DIRECTION OF WIND Russian patent published in 1994 - IPC

Abstract RU 2017169 C1

FIELD: measuring devices for radars. SUBSTANCE: non- sedimented reflection material is placed into investigated region of air. It is radiated by electromagnetic signal. Reflected signal is received from different receiving bearings. Period of amplitude modulation is proportional to wind speed. Doppler frequency shift is proportional to wind speed too, it also depends on cosine of angle between sight line to reflector and its position when it is at known angle β to horizontal plane. Amplitude of signal envelope is maximal when sight line is at given angle b to wind direction. When signal for each i-th bearing is received, depth of amplitude modulation of received signal and wind speed are measured. Maximal values are detected. If these maximal values correspond to different bearings to reflector g then above-mentioned measurements are repeated until they are equal. In this case measured wind speed is treated as its real speed, wind direction from north direction of geophysical is calculated by equation a = γ-β. EFFECT: increased functional capabilities. 3 dwg
